Sue Chan takes the easy way out on Kimber Park decision

7 Dec

City councilmember Sue Chan took the easy way out at the city council meeting yesterday. Rather than take a stand and vote for either side, Sue Chan ducked and stated that she would recuse herself because her husband, a dentist, would lose potential referrals from Kimber Park clients.

The common reasons to recuse oneself from a public decision is due to either a possible conflict of interest or lack of impartiality. Sue Chan cited neither reason to recuse herself.

Was this just a convenient way to get out of making a tough decison when a election was looming? What do you think? Vote in the poll below

Following that logic, she would have to recuse herself from all voting.

Where is the courage in our elected officials? Sue Chan is hiding behind bogus reasons to recuse herself. This is a disgrace to our city.

SUe Chan has avoided conflict in the past. Not by recusing herself specifically, but, certainly by being noticeably absent at a critical vote.
